Work has commenced on the construction of Perth’s $1.86 billion Forrestfield-Airport Link project with tunnel boring scheduled to commence in late July.

The 8.5 km rail link will feature twin-bored tunnels and three new underground stations – Forrestfield Station, Airport Central Station and Belmont Station.

Two years of tunnel boring will see the rail link completed when it connects with the existing Midland line near Bayswater Station.

Funding for the project has been contributed by the state government and federal government with the parties contributing $1.37 billion and $490 million, respectively.

Premier Mark McGowan has listed the project as the top priority for Perth’s Metronet rail plan, and has stated that over 2,000 jobs will be created during the life of the project.

Upon completion in late 2020, the train line will provide an 18-minute journey for commuters travelling from Perth Airport to the Central Business District.
