$3.6 billion Queen’s Wharf development – bridge contract awarded

Posted on 31 October 2019

Construction on a pedestrian bridge over the Brisbane River will begin by March 2020. Once completed, it will create a much-needed link between South Bank and Queen’s Wharf. The contract has now been appointed to Fitzgerald Constructions Australia.

“Fitzgerald Constructions will deliver Brisbane’s newest bridge in more than 10 years and create an icon for the river city.

“We are confident that Fitzgerald Constructions will do a great job delivering what will become an iconic symbol across the heart of our city,” Destination Brisbane Consortium Project Director Simon Crooks said.

The bridge will be named after Australia’s first Indigenous parliament member, Neville Bonner.

“The bridge will be built from South Bank first across the river to join with the integrated resort development’s key retail, food and beverage level.

“It’s a significant construction contract that will take around 24 months to complete and cross over the top of the Riverside Expressway,” Mr Crooks said.

The entire Queens Wharf development is anticipated to create 2,000 jobs during construction and a further 8,000 jobs once operational.
