$30m to be invested in WA’s iconic East Perth Power Station
Posted on 06 May 2019
The East Perth power station has long sat abandoned, attracting locals and tourists alike to enter illegally and explore the graffiti-covered and littered grounds. Premier Mark McGowan has promised $30m towards redevelopment of the site, and are currently seeking a developer to take on the massive project. There is talk of the redevelopment including an indigenous art and cultural centre, along with residential dwellings and commercial opportunities.
The $30m budget will include removal of the energy infrastructure surrounding the building, with the expectation that a private developer will fund the new cultural centre through the sale of residential and commercial sites. There is currently no estimated date for the completion of the project, but we are expected to know more before the end of the year. This investment will hopefully be a sign of revival for this historic, waterfront site.
