The Victorian Government has selected John Holland to carry out the construction of the Victoria Heart Hospital project, valued at $564m. The site is located on the Monash University Clayton Campus, south-east of Melbourne, and is expected to create more than 1,700 jobs during the construction phase.

John Holland has a range of health projects in their portfolio, including the St Andrews Hospital in Ipswich, the Sunshine University Private Hospital and Greenslopes Private Hospital in Brisbane, which made them an appealing choice.

The Heart Hospital will be a specialist hospital for cardiology for the state’s leading practitioners and researchers in the field. Upon completion, the hospital is expected to have capacity for 2,150 surgeries, 13,000 cardiac laboratory procedures, 28,300 emergency presentations and 108,000 consultations per year.

The design is set to be a key feature of the hospital; utilising biophilic design principals and passive design strategies to create an energy efficient space that marries the indoor and outdoor spaces.

The CEO of John Holland, Joe Barr, has expressed their enthusiasm for the project

“This state-of-the-art facility will lead the way in caring for heart patients, bringing together treatment, medical research and training under one roof,” Barr said.

“We are committed to transforming lives through our projects, and we will ensure we create a facility that delivers the best patient outcomes possible for years to come.”
