Cairns Airport T2 upgrade works now underway

By on 01 March 2019

Works that will refurbish the Cairns Airport domestic terminal or Cairns Airport T2 are now underway, with local contractor Hutchinson Builders delivering the terminal upgrade.

With the departure halls to feature more seating and an improved layout to simplify navigation around the terminal, the upgrade will include expanding the terminal to 10,000-SQM, including a 2,000-SQM of additional dining and retail space to showcase the best of Tropical North Queensland.

The upgrade project aims to future-proof the terminal with projected growth in passenger numbers over the next 10 years, as Cairns Airport is projected to be the second busiest regional centre in the country.

By the end of 2020, the first stage of the upgrade is due for completion as it is currently underway. Works are going to be carried out in nine parts to allow the airport to remain fully operational.
