Cairns Southern Access Corridor Stage 4 works underway

Aiming to improve safety and access for heavy vehicles, visitors and local motorists from Kate Street to Aumuller Street, construction on the $104.1 million Bruce Highway ā€“ Cairns Southern Access Corridor ā€“ Stage 4 is now underway.

Works on the project include removing and replacing the existing northbound bridge at Chinaman Creek with a new three-lane bridge, widening the current southbound bridge to three lanes as well as widening a 2.6-kilometre section of the Bruce Highway from four to six lanes. Other works include additional turning lanes and upgrading the Lyons Street and Aumuller Street to help improve traffic flow.

The project contract was awarded to the joint venture between Georgiou Group and Koppens Development and is expected to employ up to 120 workers during peak construction.

Due for completion in 2021, the project is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments.
