Construction at Sydney’s Central Station begins
By Emma Corke on 31 January 2019
One of the largest upgrades to Sydney’s Central Station is soon to be delivered as major works are now underway including new Sydney Metro platforms deep underground and the landmark Central Walk.
As platform 13 and most of platform 12 has been demolished by a six-tonne excavator before Christmas, a construction team of more than 120 people working around the clock has enabled a temporary railway station platform that has been built in three weeks. With the help of the temporary platform, it allows the Sydney Metro to be built 27 metres underground without disrupting normal trains operations above.
While construction works continue, Central Walk is set for completion in 2022 and will soon open to customers.
