Construction on Kemerton lithium plant in WA commences
By Andrew Pope on 04 April 2019
Albemarle’s $1 billion Kemerton lithium plant is set for major construction, with the contract awarded to Civmec in February 2019.
Located in the Kemerton Strategic Industrial Area, approximately 160 kilometres south of Perth and 17 kilometres northeast of Bunbury, the project is set to create 500 construction jobs and support another 500 jobs once operational. Upon completion, the lithium plant will be processing spodumene ore concentrates from the nearby Talison Lithium Greenbushes mine, producing up to 100,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide a year.
In collaboration with the State Government, Albemarle aims to ensure that work opportunities on the project are maximised for locals in Collie, Bunbury as well as in the South-West and Murray-Wellington areas.
Albemarle’s Kemerton lithium plant project will soon be commissioned and operational by March 2021.
