By Lynton Balia on 05 February 2019
Preliminary works ramp up at Melbourne Airport Rail Link as geotechnical drilling works are now underway.
Works involve drilling boreholes up to 25 centimetres in diameter and 45 metres deep to collect soil and rock samples with the use of soil testing and geotechnical investigations to establish ground connections and soil quality. Furthermore, Rail Projects Victoria is assessing ground conditions across several locations to enable detailed planning.
The project aims to deliver a new super-hub at Sunshine to pave the way for fast rail to the region, benefitting all Victorians.
Subject to required approvals, construction is set to commence in 2022 and expected to take up to 9 years.
