Mackay Ring Road project soon to commence construction

With the placement of the first concrete girder on the new Pioneer River Bridge, the Mackay Ring Road – Stage 1 project is set to commence construction, aiming to deliver a better and safer road network throughout the area.
The project will see the construction of four water crossings, nine overpass structures, major junctions and bridges to improve travel times and support an average of 534 jobs over the life of the project.
As the volume of cross-river traffic continues to grow, this new bridge will provide another river crossing option for motorists and create a vital connection between the north and south of Mackay. In addition, it will also reduce traffic on Nebo Road and other Pioneer River Crossings by providing a direct route for through-traffic and heavy vehicles, once completed.
With the commitment of both Australian and Queensland government, the project is expected to be completed in early 2020.
