Major works on Metro Tunnel’s $1bn RIA package continue to get boost

As part of the Victorian Government’s $11 billion Metro Tunnel project in Victoria, works under the $1 billion Rail Infrastructure Alliance (RIA) package that will deliver twin entrances are set to ramp up.
The RIA package is set to deliver associated suburban rail upgrades as well as a new platform at West Footscray to help maximise the benefits of the Metro Tunnel with more services for all passengers. It will also include building two entrances at each end of the Metro Tunnel in Kensington and South Yarra. Other works also include rejuvenating public spaces near the eastern tunnel entrance, including the South Yarra Siding Reserve.
Once completed, it is projected to help reduce delays, cancellations, waiting times as well as overcrowding across the metropolitan rail network by giving Melbourne’s busiest lines a new underground route through the city, to free up space in the City Loop for other train lines.
Together with the completion of tunnels and stations, works under the RIA package are expected to be completed and ready to open by the end of 2025.
