Shortlist released for Victoria’s longest tunnel project

Three consortiums have been shortlisted for the North East Link’s twin road tunnel project. At 6km long, the tunnel will be the longest built in Victoria to date and has been long awaited.
Three bidders are currently competing for the $7-9 billion project:
OneLink – CPB Contractors, Samsung C&T Corporation, Egis Road Operations, UGL Engineering, Pacific Partnership, DIF Management Australia;
Spark – Salini Impregilo, GS Engineering and Construction, China Construction Oceania, Broadspectrum Australia, Capella Capital, John Laing Investments, and advisors Lend Lease Engineering; and
ViaNova – John Holland Group, Acciona Construction, Lendlease Services, Plenary Group, Acciona Concesiones.
The brief for the project includes the entire design process which will encompass new interchanges, freeway upgrades and new pedestrian and cyclist paths.
Early works are set to begin in 2020, with major construction to begin in late 2021. The tunnels are expected to be open to traffic in 2027.
