Watpac Limited, a national construction and civil mining group, announced the finalisation of the managing contractor services requirements for the Stage 2 delivery of the new North Queensland stadium in Townsville.
Recently, the group has been working with the Queensland Government to finalise the design and contract value for the $250 million project.
The group started Stage 1 activities on site in August 2017, undertaking early preparation and civil works for the new best-practice facility on Townsville’s CBD area, with Watpac officially announced as managing contractor.
Featuring 25,000 seats, corporate facilities, permanent stand and concessions and modern amenities that will be built by the local people of Townsville, the new iconic sporting stadium will be home to the North Queensland Cowboys.
Construction of the stadium will be complete in time for the 2020 National Rugby League season, with the project expected to employ more than 2,000 people across the design and construction phases.
Watpac is working with the State Government in providing local supplier and indigenous employment opportunities.
