Turnbull government commit $1B for M1 motorway development

As Gold Coast businesses blame the chaos of traffic warnings for dull trade, a billion-dollar budget to clear congestion on two of Queensland’s busiest highway stretches has been put on the table.

Included in the $1 billion funding promise of the Australian government are extra lanes added to the M1 on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane’s south.

Also, the Eight Mile Plains to Daisy Hill will be stretched to eight lanes, and the stretch further south would be widened to six – both aiming to improve traffic flow.

Besides lane widening, under the plan, there is an additional instalment of a direct northbound off-ramp from the M1 to Southport-Burleigh Road. There would also be ramp upgrades and better cycling and walking connections to the southern Gold Coast section.
