VIC to construct biggest $15.8 billion North East Link project

With detailed designs revealed and will be on display across suburbs in the State’s north eastern region over the next weeks, the $15.8 billion North East Link has marked a milestone as Victoria’s biggest road project.
Aiming to protect homes and environmentally sensitive parkland above ground, the North East Link will have twin three-lane tunnels that spans 5.3 kilometres – located as far away from homes as possible – and ventilation structures. As response to community feedback, the project design will also feature more open space with new green bridges as well as noise standard and 25 kilometres of upgraded and new cycling and walking paths.
Other design features include 1.2 kilometres of lowered roar to minimise impact and create more open space, and a noise standard of 63 decibels along with better noise walls, making it the quietest motorway in Victoria alongside West Gate Tunnel.
Construction is expected to commence in 2020 and open to traffic in 2027.
