WA Great Northern Highway Upgrade contract awarded to WBHO

WBHO Infrastructure Pty Ltd has been awarded the contract to deliver the works on Western Australia’s Great Northern Highway upgrade between Muchea and Chittering, with works set to begin by the end of the year.
As part of the scope of works, the existing highway will be used as local access roads to avoid future congestion and provide safer access points to the highway plus, there will be a realignment of the intersection of Old Gingin Road, Reserve Road, Wandena Road, Maddern South Road and Sugar Gum Drive. In addition, the upgrade includes the construction of 3.5 kilometres of dual carriageway that will link up with the NorthLink WA project at Muchea and 8.5 kilometres of new wider single carriageway through to Chittering Roadhouse, set to be built next to the existing Great Northern Highway.
The upgrade project is jointly funded by the Australian Government committing $275.8 million and Western Australia Government funding the remainder of the cost, as part of the greater $344.8 million Great Northern Highway Upgrade – Muchea to Wubin.
While the Muchea to Chittering section of the Great Northern Highway Upgrade is set to be completed by February 2020, the entire Great Northern Highway – Muchea to Wubin Upgrades is expected to support up to 2,000 jobs during construction.
