Yan Yean road in VIC to get an upgrade
By Scott Dywer on 06 November 2018
With a budget of $131 million for road upgrade, Yan Yean will see a boost in local jobs as the project is going to be delivered by local workers and businesses as well as utilising local materials.
Scope of works include widening the road from one to two lanes in each direction between Diamond Creek Road and Kurrak Road, upgrading the intersections at Diamond Creek Road, River Avenue, Memorial Drive, Browns Lane, Kurrak Road and the Nillumbik Shire Council Recycling and Recovery Centre, adding service lanes to provide safe access to residential properties, building a new shared walking and cycling path along the full length of Yan Yean Road, among others.
Implementing the Victorian Government’s Local Jobs First – Victorian Industry Participation Policy, this multi-million dollar project requires a minimum of 95 per cent local content to ensure that local businesses get equal opportunities for work.
The Stage 1 of the upgrade project aims to slash congestions and deliver safe travels. Expected to be completed by mid-2019, BMD Constructions was awarded the contract to design and build this project last year.
